Insulator chains
Insulator chains are key components of overhead power lines. They isolate the tower (supporting structure) connected to the ground from the high-voltage energy that is transmitted through the conductor. Insulator chains consist of the several components, such as: arcing horns, insulators, yoke plates, hangers, h-links, clamps, bolts, etc. These transmission line accessories must be manufactured with an anti-corrosion coating due to the role they play. It is unacceptable for corrosion to appear on them over time. However, not all of the insulator chain elements are made of steel. One of the few components of the entire structure is the insulator, which can be made of glass, ceramic, or polymer. Depending on the tower design (supporting structure) and the number of conductors, one or more insulator chains may be mounted at different heights.
